Situated on a gentle hill and surrounded by a magnificent green park, Castello di Spessa dominates a splendid view, to be admired in this part of the Friuli area. A symbol of tradition and nobility, even though this stately Castle is far removed from its original site, due to later re-building, it echoes history, which in this area has left important yet distant evidence. The most ancient traces of civilization date back to the period of the Roman Empire: to a watchtower, to be precise, built and used by the Romans and then by the Lombards, with evidence that the building of Castello di Spessa followed this. However, there are few remains of the original building, only parts of the walls on the western side of the building.
Castello di Spessa has lived through many important historical moments and one, deserving mention, dates back to the 18th century, the protagonist of extraordinary cultural fervour, representing aristocracy and the noble family tradition. The atmosphere still surrounding Castello di Spessa today recalls the grandeur of that time: the nobility, the arts, the prestige and the human affairs of famous people who travelled here.
